Star Mosaic Patio

This is a small patio we built in Marshall, North Carolina that is about 14 feet in diameter and has a retaining wall that supports a stone bench. The patio is made of gray sandstone from Tennessee, and the wall is Tennessee fieldstone. The stone bench is about 10 feet long with a seat back that echoes the contours of the mountain ridge. I designed the central star mosaic, which is inspired by Islamic tile designs. It’s about 42 inches in diameter. The mosaic itself is made of marble, limestone, and granite.
