Drew,
I like color and size variation. I like textures to be consistent. I always try to keep to the budget but not work myself into a corner with too little stone. In this case, there was already a ruined wall there of Tennessee sandstone. I reused that material and supplemented with other types of sandstone, mostly from Tennessee. I underestimated the amount of stone in the old wall (it was traced and shorter than the one I put in its place.) I ended up adding more material than I planned and so the mix is more pronounced than it might have been. It’s in a shady spot, so Mother Nature will have a hand in blending the work together.

Very nice interesting retaining wall. You seem to use a lot of different types of stone, how do you go about selecting it?
